ECIS 2022 - New Horizons in Digitally United Societies

Doctoral Consortium

January 17, 2022

While our global human family is facing difficult challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is now clearer than ever that social relationships is the core of humanity. With this in mind, we are planning and hoping for a face-to-face ECIS 2022 Doctoral Consortium in Sasca Montana, 130 km south of Timișoara, in the beautiful natural area of the Banat Mountains. The Doctoral Consortium will take place from Saturday June 18th 2022, to Tuesday June 21st 2022. In practical terms, it means that you should only apply to the Doctoral Consortium only if you currently plan to participate in person. At the same time, we don’t know what the pandemic situation will be like in June 2022, so we are also making contingency plans for alternate formats.

Our commitment is to deliver an ECIS Doctoral Consortium with a collegial and affirmative environment to enable doctoral students currently working on dissertations in the area of Information Systems to share their work, receive constructive feedback, and build lifelong friendships.

The Doctoral Consortium Committee invites nominations to the consortium. Eligible candidates must be currently enrolled in a University within AIS Region 2 (the continents of Europe and Africa and specified countries in the Middle East that come under Region 2). Each University can nominate only one candidate and must guarantee proper funding for the student to attend the doctoral consortium as well as the main conference. The room and board at the consortium, as well as the travel costs from Timișoara to the destination and return are provided courtesy of ECIS 2022 and the conference sponsors. Importantly, admitted PhD students must register for ECIS 2022.

Selection Process and Related Information

Selection to the ECIS doctoral consortium is based on merit. Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the consortium faculty. Participants will be selected based on the quality of the proposed research, its potential significance and contribution to the IS discipline, the potential contribution the student is likely to make to the consortium, and the potential benefit of the consortium to the student’s research.

Participation is limited to 20 students and the doctoral consortium committee will seek to include the best proposals as well as to balance the background and interests of the candidates.

The language for the Consortium is English, and all submitted materials must be in English. Nominating a student to the doctoral consortium implies that the student has sufficient proficiency in English and will be able to participate effectively in the presentations, discussions, and other activities.

Nominating a student to the doctoral consortium obliges the institution to fund the student’s travel to Timișoara and conference attendance for the entire duration of the event.

Notifications of acceptance or otherwise will be sent via e-mail to all applicants by 10th of April 2022. Further instructions will be sent to the participants ahead of the event.

There is no registration fee for the Doctoral Consortium, and room and board at the consortium are provided courtesy of ECIS 2022 and the conference sponsors. Furthermore, the DC budget includes all travel costs from Timișoara to the destination and return. However, all participants are required to register for the main conference and advised to take advantage of the early-bird students’ rate.

Travel and Visa

We will provide transportation to the consortium location from Timișoara and from the consortium location to the main conference site in Timișoara. Further travel instructions will follow.

Participants from some countries may need to obtain a visa to visit Romania. For visa information, please contact the respective embassies or consulates in your home country. You can also check information on https://www.mae.ro/en/node/2040. Please plan ahead.
